Helen Davis Chaitman, a lawyer defending some 500 victims of Bernie Madoff's Ponzi scheme, was denied a motion to overturn a $220 million settlement with heirs of billionaire Norman Levy.
Chaitman told The Post that she intended on appealing Judge Burton Lifland's decision, which was leveled yesterday at an hourlong hearing in US Bankruptcy court.
Chaitman, who personally lost money in Madoff's scam, has been arguing to bounce Irving Picard as Madoff trustee alleging that he has withheld information and crafted "sweetheart deals" with certain victims and investors.
Also yesterday, three former Madoff employees lost a bid to have the criminal charges against them dismissed.
US District Judge Laura Taylor Swain in Manhattan denied a request by Daniel Bonventre, Annette Bongiorno and Joann Crupi to throw out the charges based on their claim that the government is improperly restricting their access to money to pay their lawyers.
In other Madoff news, FINRA ruled that Robert Jaffe, former vice president of Cohmad Securities Corp., must pay $1.1 million in compensatory damages to investors.
